In my history of photography class, I noticed many great painters were interested in photography. The skill sets of transforming a two dimensional surface to an engaging story has been the goal of artists for thousands of years. These formats are simply new tools–with their own pros and cons–that help artists accomplish the goal of evoking empathy. The soft skills required to be a great painter, photographer, or filmmaker seem to have incredible overlap. In my art history classes, art theory from many different places and times are discussed. Inevitably, those theories seem to transcend their period and intended medium and apply to a wide variety of art.
Who are some great modern day examples of people who cross mediums?
How do we find communities to gather, consume, and discuss art once we graduate?
What are some examples of filmmakers creating work inspired by other mediums?
How can we create more collaboration between departments?
Where can we go to find and be inspired by great art once we graduate?
